Product Notes

Bodegas Terras Gauda La Mar is a Spanish white wine made from the Rias Baixas region. This wine is carefully crafted from the Albarino grape variety, which is famous for producing crisp and fragrant white wines. The vineyard is situated in a unique microclimate, where the sea breeze from the nearby Atlantic plays a pivotal role in the maturation and development of the grapes. The wine comes in a pale straw color and offers a subtle yet fruity aroma, with a palate reminiscent of ripe melons and citrus fruits. This wine delivers a refreshing acidity and smooth finish, making it an ideal pairing for seafood dishes or as an aperitif during warm summer nights.

Tasting Notes

Initially, La Mar surprises us with its clean aromas of tropical fruit, dominated by very ripe pineapple and mango. This first impression is fallowed by delicate aromas of lychee and ripe peach. The Caiño's excellent ability to extract the finest characteristics from the terroir shows through in this wine with a remarkable minerality, earthy notes and fresh saline overtones. These aromatic sensations are underpinned by hints of aromatic herbs and ripe melon and finish their aromatic journey in an enveloping, creamy backdrop of fine lees. On the palate, La Mar surprises us right from the start. It is a flavorsome wine, with loads of extract that makes it juicy, broad, unctuous and meaty. It shows excellent structure yet is also soft and appetizing. It wraps around the palate with power and freshness, clearly showing the ripeness of the vintage. The Caiño's excellent acidity brings freshness and gives the wine its excellent ability to age well. As always, La Mar is flavorsome on the palate, showing itself to be very broad, luscious, deep, full-bodied yet soft, and possessing great structure. It is a chewy wine whose excellent acidity also adds freshness and length and contributes to another feature of the Caiño grape - its surprising capacity far ageing

About the Winery

Bodegas Terras Gauda

The Bodegas Terras Gauda, a reputed wine brand from Spain, started from a humble beginning of producing only 37000 bottles from its first harvest in the 1990s.  O Rosal Valley, located within the Rias Baixas Denomination of Origin region was the birth place of this brand. In the subsequent years, the group started to expand its business quite rapidly. Today, it boasts of commercial production of around 1.5million bottles!

There are three wineries and a 160-hectare vineyard under the control of this group currently. These wineries are Bodegas Terras Gauda, Vinedos Y Bodegas Pittacum and Quinta Sardonia. The Terras Gauda group acquired the Bodegas Pittacum in 2002 and the Quinta Sardonia in 2010.

The Bodegas Terras Gauda group is located in the Pontevedra province, in the borders of Portugal. The Mino River provides the much-needed fertility to the vineyards of this region. At this winery, wines are created within the Denomination of Origin Rias Baixas. The grape varietals planted in the 87-hectare vineyards are Albarino (65%), Caino Bianco (24%), Loureiro (10%) and Treixadura (1%).

The Pittacum Winery is blessed with diverse soil types and microclimatic conditions, which help it to produce the right-tasting grapes in the right quantity. The Menca variety of grapes produced here are the flagship fruit of this region and it truly symbolises the personality of this region. You can find this winery in Arganza, in the DO Bierzo region. Only the best grapes from the Bierzo area are used for making wines here.

The Sardonia Quinta Winery can be found at Duero Vallery in the Sardon de Duero Town. The calcareous soils here produce grapes that are a true representation of the awesome terroir here. The 22-hectare winery was established during 1998. The seven grape varietals grown here are Tinto Fino (58.5%), Cabernet Sauvignon (22%), Syrah and Petit Verdot (5% each), Malbec (4%), Merlot (3.5%) and Cabernet Franc (2%).
