Product Notes

By Farr Viognier is a perfumed and elegant wine made exclusively from Viongier grapes grown in the Geelong region of Victoria, Australia. This wine is a delicate balance of aromatics, texture and complexity imparted by the limestone soils that the vines are grown in. The nose is dominated by jasmine, honeysuckle, white peach and lemon zest, while the palate is rich and full, displaying complex flavors of apricot, honey, quince and lemon sorbet. The creamy texture provides a luxurious mouthfeel and the acid structure adds freshness and length to the finish. Overall, By Farr Viognier is an expressive and well-crafted wine, perfect for pairing with seafood, poultry or spicy dishes.

Tasting Notes

A lovely perfumed, yet subtle expression of viognier. Fresh peach and apricot flavours as a young wine, which we believe will intensify over time. The palate is restrained, luscious and shows a ginger-flavoured freshness with underlying power and lingering aftertaste. This wine benefits beautifully from 12 months of bottle ageing, as the acid softens.

About the Winery

By Farr

Located at about 100km from Melbourne, the Farr Wine Estate is one of the oldest wine-growing regions in the Moorabool Valley. The place is blessed with a continental climate and volcanic soil quality. Due to this, the grapes produced here of premium quality with intense flavour and rich colour. In 1994, the estate was purchased by Gary and Robyn Farr. Four years later, they purchased some more land.

In the year 2011, Nick and Cassie Farr purchased the final piece of the estate to increase the family’s total ownership to 130 acres of land. Though the family members have different ideas when it comes to winemaking, they don’t shy away from developing their own wine lines, with varying flavours and characteristics.

Out of the 130 acres, 36 acres are dedicated to growing vines and the remaining is used for grazing cattle. The grapes grown on these 36 acres include flavourful varietals such as Viognier, Chardonnay, Gamay, Shiraz and Pinot Noir. Due to the different winemaking ideas, there are two ranges of wines that are released under this label; By Farr from Gary and Farr Rising by Nick. Both these ranges have received positive feedback from across the globe.

Today, Nick is mostly responsible for the winemaking and all the viticultural practices undertaken in the estate, but under the watchful eyes of his father, Gary. Since both father & son had learnt the tricks and trade of the business from international wineries, they share a common passion for introducing methods to winemaking, but they agree to disagree with each other. The Farr Rising range of wines, launched by Nick, was first released in Bannockburn’s Innisfail Vineyards.

All over the By Farr wine estate, you will notice six different soil qualities. The mineral-rich content of the soil and microclimate prevailing here make this estate on one of the best sources of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
