Cannonball Merlot is a delicious and intriguing red wine that is certain to impress any wine lover. This wine is a blend of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Syrah, and is a product of the rich soil and abundant sunshine of California's North Coast. The wine has a deep red color and notes of dark fruit, cherry, and vanilla. It is medium-bodied with a velvety texture and a long, intense finish. This wine pairs perfectly with hearty dishes such as roasted meats, stews, and pasta. Overall, Cannonball Merlot is an elegant and flavorful wine that is enjoyable on its own or with a meal.

Tasting Notes

Euphoria in a bottle. The aroma of the wine shows fresh berries, cayenne spice and dried walnuts with nuances of toasty oak. Begin with a full silky entry with sophisticated structure, wonderful concentration and playful texture peeking through, slowly building into an engaging finish of fresh cherries, rich chocolate and spiced cake. On the palate, the wine is medium-full bodied with classic Bordeaux proportions. The wine finishes with perfectly balanced texture and flavor and a refreshing brightness. An absolute pleasure to enjoy on its own, the lush ripe tannins of this Merlot also pair well with a wide range of foods including salmon, pork, root vegetables and aged cheeses. Its expansive persona has enough backbone to accompany red meats, Asian duck and pasta with rich sauces. Enjoy!

About the Winery

Cannonball

Cannonball Winery was established in the year 2006 in Healdsburg, California, by a team of wine experts with the main aim of making high-quality Californian Cabernet wines under $20! Today, the wines from this brand are known for being intense, creative and innovative at the same time. All the stakeholders of Cannonball and wine lovers were surprised that Cabernet could be so affordable.

This appreciation motivated the brand to expand its category of varietals. Gradually, it started using many other varietals such as Chardonnay, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc to make wines. Despite the introduction of many varietals, Cabernet continues to remain the flagship varietal of Cannonball. The grapes for these wines are sourced from some of the premium wine-growing regions in California.

The different regions of California are known for their diverse climates, topography and soil conditions. Therefore, the fruits grown here reflect the true characteristics of the land. Recently, Cannonball launched its Eleven series of Wines. This range produces only a limited number of bottles. The fruits for this series is grown in the wine-rich region of Sonoma County.

Some of the popular Cannonball wines are:

  • Cabernet Sauvignon – Considered to be the flagship wine of this brand, the Cannonball Cabernet Sauvignon is unique. This is because it reflects the natural terroir richness of the Californian vineyards and the intensity of the Bordeaux regions.
  • Merlot – The Merlot grapes for this wine are sourced from Mendocino County in California. The warm afternoons & cool nights of this place lend the much-needed character to the fruits.
  • Chardonnay – This wine is made from the Chardonnay grapes grown across all the cool-climate appellations located in Northern California. The French oak barrels used to age this wine help to give a natural caramel taste to the final product. The flavours of processed oak and toasted bread cannot be missed in this wine.
