Product Notes

Cave de Hunawihr Gewurztraminer Réserve is a white wine made from Gewurztraminer grapes grown in the Alsace region of France. This wine is an example of a traditional Alsatian wine that shows the typicity of the grape variety. It is a full-bodied wine characterized by its floral and spicy aromas, with notes of rose petals, lychee, and ginger. On the palate, this Gewurztraminer is rich and complex with intense flavors of ripe peach, apricot, and exotic fruits, balanced by a lively acidity that leaves a pleasant aftertaste. The Cave de Hunawihr Gewurztraminer Réserve is a perfect match for spicy dishes, Asian cuisine, and creamy cheese.

About the Winery

Cave de Hunawihr

Set up in 1954, the Hunawihr Winery is the place where you get to taste some of the best and most elegant of French wines. This is a cooperative winery located in the scenic Alsace region of France. As per latest data, close to 110 members belong to this cooperative winery. This cooperative owns 200 vineyards, out of which, 80% is cultivated in the Hunawihr region and the remaining vineyards can be found in the neighbouring locations of Riquewihr and Zellenberg.

Though there are many types of wines crafted this winery, the Grand Crus deserve a special mention. They are made from the best of the grapes cultivated on 13 hectares spread across Rosacker, Froehn, Sporen, Schoenenbourg and Osterberg.

Out of the 26 hectares found in Rosacker, the Hunawihr cooperative owns close to 11 of them. Riesling, the white wine varietal is grown on most of these 11 hectares. Due to the soil quality, natural climatic conditions and the great terroir, the white wines produced are absolutely remarkable. Hence it is no surprise that the Grand Cru Riesling Rosacker is the most significant wine crafted here.

The grape varietals grown in the Hunawihr vineyards are Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Sylvaner, Muscat, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris. The vineyards located in the Alsace region enjoy the dry climate that is mostly found in the semi-continental areas. This helps the grapes to ripen naturally with their full flavours.

The region of Rosacker is blessed with excellent soil quality. The clay & limestone content of this soil plays a huge role in making the grapes dry, flavourful and fresh at the same time. You will notice a visible uniqueness in the Gran Cru Riesling wine made from the grapes grown in the Rosacker region, for this very reason.
