Product Notes

Domaine Pierre Luneau-Papin Excelsior is a beautifully balanced and masterfully crafted wine that captures the essence of the Loire region in France. The wine is made from the finest Melon de Bourgogne grapes grown in the Muscadet Sèvre et Maine appellation. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected to ensure the highest quality. The wine is aged for several months on its lees, giving it a smooth texture with a beautifully complex flavor profile. The nose is filled with aromas of white flowers, citrus, and flint, while the palate is balanced with a bright minerality, ripe citrus fruits, and hints of salinity. The wine is the perfect pairing for seafood and shellfish or as a refreshing aperitif. It is a true gem from one of France's most renowned wineries, Domaine Pierre Luneau-Papin.

Tasting Notes

This single vineyard Muscadet has an amazing, almost exotic nose of acacia-blossom and lime-flower and fills the palate with layer upon layer of 'bread-and-butter' fruit. The yeasty sourdough smokiness lingers hauntingly and the length would grace a premier cru Burgundy.

About the Winery

Domaine Pierre Luneau-Papin

The beautiful love story of Pierre Luneau and Monique Papin led to the establishment of the Domaine Pierre Luneau Papin Estate in the 1990s. Both of them were from a family of winegrowers; therefore, their passion for winemaking united them. While Pierre belonged to a wine-producing family in the town of Landreau, Monique belonged to a winemaking family in the Chapelle-Heulin town.

Today, the flagship wines of Muscadet Sevre & Maine, Muscadet Sevre & Maine Goulaine and Gros Plant du Pays Natais from this estate, are perfect representations of the terroir quality of their vineyards. These terroirs are marked by granite, mica-schists, peridotite-serpentinite, gneiss and quartz soil types. The diverse nature of these soils and the excellent climatic conditions lend intensity to the melon B and Folle Blanche grape clusters grown here.

The generations before Pierre and Monique, and the generations after them pay ultimate respect to the excellent terroirs of this estate. Thanks to the respect for nature, the winemaking team of this estate ensures that it practices organic and biodynamic viticultural practices here.

Pierre and Monqiue share a common love towards Melon B's historic French grape variety (known melon de Bourgogne in many places). They took great pride in the quality of Muscadet that grew on their vineyards.  As a result, they started making the L d’Or cuvees (cultivated on the granite soils of Luneau plant), Les Pierres Blanches (cultivated on the gneiss soils of Papin plant) and Clos des Allees (cultivated on the schist and mica soils of Luneau plant). They also ensured that they expressed the richness of their terroirs to the world.

In 2005, the couple’s son, Pierre-Marie took over the control of the cellar and vineyards of the Pierre-Luneau Estate. His wife, Marie, joined him to head the communications and commercial department in 2008.
