Product Notes

Donnafugata Sherazade Nero d'Avola is a red wine that hails from the island of Sicily, Italy. Made from the Nero d'Avola grape, this wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels creating a rich and complex taste. Aromas of black cherry, blackberry, and plum are prominent on the nose, while on the palate it has a full-bodied taste with a subtle hint of vanilla. This wine is best paired with hearty dishes such as roasted meats, stews, and pasta dishes in tomato sauce. Its deep red color and smooth finish make it a great accompaniment to any meal or perfect for indulging in during a night of relaxation.

About the Winery

Donnafugata

Donnafugata is a brand that creates wines with elegance and creativity that are symbolic of the Sicilian region in Italy, where they come from. The family-owned family wine brand was created with the sole objective to make the world notice the style of the Sicilian wine styles. Currently, this brand is owned by the fifth generation of the founding family.

Sustainability is a policy followed very seriously at Donnafugata wines. Minimising the use of chemical fertilisers, cluster thinning techniques and maximising the use of natural resources are some steps that the team makes in this aspect.

Donnafugata wines are created with the grapes sourced from regions such as Contessa Entellina, Pantelleria, Vittoria, Etna and Marsala. Close to 283 hectares are used for cultivating the vines. The diverse climatic conditions, soil quality and the terroirs of these places make them ideal for growing certain indigenous varietals such as Ansonica, Grecanico, Nero d’Avola, Grillo and Catarratto.

Along with these, you can also find other common Italian and international grape varietals such as Chardonnay, Merlot, Syrah, Fiano, Viognier and Cabernet Sauvignon as well here. A small portion of the vineyards is dedicated to growing limited quantities of varietals such as Petit Manseng, Petit Verdot, Pinot Nero, Sauvignon Blanc, Tannat and Alicante Bouchet.

Located in the southwestern part of Sicily, the vineyards from Donnaguta wines get their grapes from, are located at a height of around 200 to 800m above sea level. The winters are mild here, with the area receiving very little rainfall throughout the year. The warm and dry summers play a huge role in growing grapes that are highly aromatic, full-bodied and 100% mature.

The winery is a combination of old and modern systems in vogue. While traditional fermentation processes are still followed with finesse, a modern tool called destemmer is used to check the quality of red wines that enter the winery.
