Product Notes

Errazuriz Don Maximiano Founder's Reserve is a premium Chilean wine that honors the winery's founder, Don Maximiano Errazuriz. Produced in San Antonio Valley, this wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Petit Verdot, and Malbec, characterized by its dark ruby color and intense aromas of ripe black fruits, spices, and tobacco. On the palate, this wine is full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a silky texture, leading to a long, elegant finish. It is aged in French oak barrels for 18 months, which gives it complexity, structure, and hints of vanilla and mocha. This wine is perfect for pairing with red meats, game, and strong cheeses.

Tasting Notes

Of a beautiful ruby red color with violet highlights, the 2017 vintage of Don Maximiano Founder’s Reserve captivates with aromas reminiscent of red fruits such as cherries and raspberries. Further back some nice notes of cocoa and clove appear, culminating with a slight oral hint that reminds of violets. Aligned with what is perceived on the nose, the palate offers cherries, raspberries and cassis flavors, plus the sweet notes of cocoa and clove. Of a wide entrance, it is a generous wine, with good tension and juiciness that provide freshness, framed by mature tannins that marvelously surround the mouth, along with a long and very pleasant persistence

About the Winery

Errazuriz

When you make a list of some of the best Chilean wines, Errazuriz is sure to feature in it. Founded in 1870, this wine label has been making wines that are true to the terroir found in the place of its origin – Aconcagua Valley in Chile. Don Maximiano Errazuriz, the founder of this label planted the first French vines in this region to make innovative and stylish Chilean wines. Today, his descendants have made Errazuriz one of the most sought-after Chilean wines.

The Errazuriz Winery, constructed in 1870, is an architectural marvel, in itself. It took around 14 years to complete this winery construction because it made use of some of the most advanced engineering technologies of that time. The underground cellars have some unique features like brick walls. The mortar for the walls was made using a paste of egg whites and sand. More than a century later, the winery still stands strong and is in use today. Massive barrels are used to store the wine here at a temperature of 12 to 14 degrees Celsius at all times.

In 2009, the company set up a new winery, Don Maximiano Icon Winery, to house some of its highest quality of wines. The winery is known for its completely submerged body and its spiral shape. Thanks to the spiral shape, the fruits and juices move to the next stages with the help of natural gravity here. Another interesting fact about this new winery is that it is completely safe for the environment as it uses geothermal and solar energies for its temperature and light settings.

This place boasts a maximum production capacity of 347,000litres. The bleached concrete construction is a sight to behold, indeed! This winery's inauguration happened in 2010, with over 100 guests in attendance, and these included press and wine connoisseurs worldwide.
