Product Notes

Fowles Wine Ladies Who Shoot Their Lunch Wild Ferment Chardonnay is crafted to create a rich and complex wine, made with great care and attention. It has an intense nose of spicy oak, with hints of peach, honey and stone fruit. The palate is full-bodied, with flavors of ripe apple and pear, and a subtle hint of vanilla. The wine is fermented in new French oak barrels and is left to mature on the lees for a period of 8 months. The winemakers at Fowles Wine have managed to create a wine that has a perfect balance of acidity, fruit and oak, making it the perfect companion for seafood and chicken dishes.

Tasting Notes

This chardonnay is a rich straw yellow in colour. Lovely complex aromas of white peach rise from the glass and are balanced with soft notes of oak, savoury cream and hints of minerality. On the palate, a seamless integration of fruit, oak and acidity gives a mouth filling richness to finish.

About the Winery

Fowles Wine

Highly regarded as one of Australia’s best cool-climate wine producers, Fowles Wines is a small wine estate, established by a passionate winemaking team led by Matt Fowles. Today, if you are looking for a fulfilling wine and food experience in Australia’s Victoria Region, you should visit Fowles Wine Estate. Fowles has 360 acres of vines under its control. These vines are part of two vineyards – Upton Run and Billi’s, located along the Strathbogie Ranges.

With the vineyards located at an average altitude of 430 to 550m above sea level, they are blessed with an excellent and cool climate at all times. Decomposed granite is the soil quality found in both these vineyards. Their free-draining nature ensures that the vines are focused on developing fruits of good quality, balance and structure.

The Strathbogie Ranges experience diurnal climate conditions all through the year. The warm days and cool nights help the grapes to ripen naturally. Since there is a constant whiff of wind that buzzes across the region, the fruits are protected from the snow's harsh effects. Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Mourvedre and Pinot Gris are grown in Billi’s vineyards. Arneis, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Sangiovese, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, Vermentino and Merlot are planted on the Upton Run Vineyards.

Located on the top of a hill on the Strathbogie Ranges, with a panoramic view of the central Victorian plains, the Fowles Winery is the place where wines are crafted in the most innovative and unique ways. Since the winery is located close to the family vineyards, the fruits are processed properly without wasting any time in transport. The main hall of the winery can hold over 1000 barrels. Some barrels are more than 100 years old, and they are used for maturing wines in such a way that the original character and texture of the fruits are not lost.
