Product Notes

Greywacke Marlborough Pinot Gris is an exceptional wine that is produced in limited quantities from the most premium vineyard sites in the Marlborough region of New Zealand. Its brilliant pale-yellow hue, tropical fruit aroma with hints of fresh pear, and vibrant acidity make it a refreshing and tantalizingly complex wine to sip. The flavors are pulled together by a bright minerality that gives it structure and the perfect balance of acidity. Flavors of apple and spices add depth to the initial fruity aroma, making it a wine with great personality that can be paired with flavorsome foods or enjoyed on its own. Greywacke Marlborough Pinot Gris is the ultimate expression of New Zealand's wine-making prowess.

Tasting Notes

A luscious concoction of pear, candied quince and vanilla cream drizzled with wildflower honey, a dash of rosewater and a sprinkle of nutmeg. Greywacke Pinot Gris is a ripe, opulent expression of the variety made in a voluptuous off-dry style that has considerable concentration and a long, textural finish.

About the Winery

Greywacke

The Greywacke winery in New Zealand wouldn’t have been so popular today, if Kevin Judd, one of the pioneer winemakers from Marlborough, hadn’t taken a personal interest to identify it and develop the place. This winery is named after the famous bedrock of New Zealand, the grey-wacky, which is almost considered as the national stone of the place. Judd, a professional photographer, explored the winery to a great extent to become a master in making wines without any intervention. Thanks to the unique winemaking process followed here, the wines produced in the Greywacke winery are full of authentic flavours and good concentration of the fruits.

The most popular wine styles that you will see here are the Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Sparkling, Pinot Noir, Merlot & Cabernet Sauvignon blends, Syrah and more. Regardless of the type of wine that is produced here, the grapes are hand-picked carefully and bench-pressed well, before they are sent to the French Oak barrels for fermentation. The Chardonnay wines of this winery deserve a special mention because they have been rated very highly by many popular wine experts across the globe.

Though Kevin started producing wines here many years later, it was in 1993 that he registered the name Greywacke for this particular place. He had wanted to set up his own label of wines here sometime in the future, but the timing was right only in the year 2009. The places where the grapes are cultivated are located in the Central Wairau Plains and the Southern Valleys. The grapes are then processed and vinified in the Dog Point Winery found at the lesser-elevated Brancott Valley.

The process of vinification is personally supervised by Kevin Judd, which ensures that the wines of hits place are full of original flavours. On the labels of the wine bottles, don’t miss out to see the beautiful photographs of the Greywacke vineyards, taken by Judd himself.
