  • When Gernot and Heike Heinrich founded their brand of Heinrich wines in 1990, they owned only 1 hectare of land. Today, this Austrian wine label has grown to over 90 hectares. When other winemakers in Austria and the neighbouring countries were producing plain white wines, Gernot and Heike wanted to try their hands in creating high-quality red wines. And, they succeeded!

Today, this label is known for some exotic red wine blends like Gabarinza, Salzberg and Pannobile. In the recent past, the Heinrich wine label was in the news for resorting to biodynamic and sustainable winemaking methods to produce new varieties such as the Blaufrankisch and Freyheit. Thanks to its out-of-the-box thinking and creative wines, Heinrich is considered as one of the best innovative wine brands of Austria.

The 90 hectares of the Heinrich estate is spread across these areas:

    • Parndorfer Platte
    • Gabarinza
    • Salzberg
    • Leitahagebirge
    • Alter Berg
    • Edelgraben

During the year 2006, the team at Heinrich decided to make their winemaking sustainable and biodynamic in a bid to retain the quality and fertility of their vineyards. Some of the efforts taken in this direction are leaving the fruits with their skins on for several days, allowing the wines to remain on lees for a long time and using neutral oak barrels for fermentation.

Burgenland contains the optimum climate, soil and terroir quality to bring out the maximum character of the Blaufrankisch varietal. The white wine varietals that are grown here are Pinot Gris, Roter Traminer, Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay.  The other popular varietals whose flavour, aroma and taste speak for themselves are Pinot Noir, St. Laurent and Zweigelt.

In short, at the Heinrich winery, the vines are grown and cultivated with as little intervention as possible, to create some of the best and most creative wines of Austria.
