Tasting Notes

There are intense notes of dark fruits and cocoa across the nose. We recognise the characteristics of a Mediterranean vintage: round and warm, with a mouth‐filling outburst. It's a well‐balanced wine with a touch of sweetness that lasts in the mouth. Throughout the tasting, we notice notes of tobacco, cocoa, and black fruit, which are consistent with the nose.

About the Winery

Ixsir

Located at around 1800m above sea level, Ixsir is one of the tallest vineyards in the world. This name comes from the word, Iksir, which is the Arabic word for elixir. In short, the word, Ixsir means something that is pure and elegant. There couldn’t have been a better word than this for the wines created from the best terroirs of Lebanon.

Ranging from the areas of Batroun to Jezzine, the vineyards of Ixsir are surrounded by scenic mountains all around. Diverse soil types (clay, lime, and calcareous) along with the microclimate of the place makes it ideal for growing grapes that are known for their richness, complexity, elegance and purity.

The vineyards of Ixsir are spread across the entire area of Lebanon from north to south. Close to 250 families participate in the vine cultivation process here. These families practice sustainable agricultural and winemaking methods to ensure that there is no intervention at all during the entire process.

The main vineyards are located in the areas such as:

Batroun to Basbina - known for its diverse soil types (clay, lime and sand); ideal for growing Syrah and Petit Verdot

Ainata – known for its shell limestone with clay type of soil; ideal for growing Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Caladoc

Deir El Ahmar – known for its unique iron-rich gravelly clay lime soil; ideal for growing Arinarnoa, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Tempranillo

Niha – known for its marl-calcareous soil type; ideal for growing Syrah

Kab Elias – known for its clay and limestone soil type; ideal for growing Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Muscat, Syrah, Semillon and Sauvignon

Jezzine – known for its limestone rock crack and calcareous clay soil types; ideal for growing Syrah

The El Elixir Red (55% Syrah, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot) and the El Elixir White (70% Viognier and 30% Chardonnay) are popular wines of this label.
