About Jean-Paul & Benoit Droin

Located right in the heart of the Chablis region, the French wine estate of Domaine Jean-Paul and Benoit Droin has been in the business of making wines for over 4 centuries now. The estate owns 26 hectares of vineyards that are spread across some of the best appellations to make Chablis, Petit Chablis, Premium Cru (9) and Grand Cru (5) wines. Currently, this estate is managed by the 13th generation of the family that founded this label.

Every single bottle of wine produced here has ultimate respect to the pure terroirs of the Chablis region. The region is unique because it has many types of soils and almost 16 different climatic conditions. These conditions have a great and positive influence on the wines crafted here.

Some of the flagship wines created by this label are:

Petit Chablis – This wine is made from 100% Chardonnay grape varietal, grown on the plateaus above the Kimmeridgian region. The Portlandian soils of this region and the elevation of the vines, which is about 200m above sea level, help create this balanced and elegant wine.

The white varietals are pneumatically pressed before they are allowed to settle for about 12 to 14 hours at about 15 degrees C. Fermentation happens with the help of natural yeasts, in huge stainless steel vats. After this, the fruits undergo malolactic fermentation, before they are assembled for about 8 to 10 months. As per the latest reports, Jean-Paul and Benoit Droin produces about 14000 bottles of this wine every year.

Chablis – This wine is made from 100% Chardonnay varietal grown on shallow soils grown in the upper and middle layers of Kimmeridgian regions. The other processes are almost similar to the Petit Chablis wine. Over 70,000 bottles of this wine are produced every year.

Chardonnay is the grape varietal used to make all the Grand cru wines of this region.
