Product Notes

Ken Forrester Wines The Gypsy is a South African red wine that is rich, complex, and full-bodied. It is a blend of seven different grape varieties, including Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Viognier. The wine is named after the winery's founder and owner, Ken Forrester, who is well-known for his commitment to producing exceptional wines. The Gypsy is a popular choice for wine enthusiasts who appreciate a bold and flavorful red wine. It has aromas of dark fruits, spices, and licorice, and a palate that is full of flavor with notes of plum, blackcurrant, and black pepper. This wine pairs well with red meat, game, and strong cheeses.

Tasting Notes

Wild, spicy and full of concentrated red fruit, nutmeg and cinnamon.

About the Winery

Ken Forrester Wines

The best of South African wines are produced in the extraordinary Stellenbosch region. The Ken Forrester Wine label is not an exception to this rule. Located on the slopes of the scenic Helderberg Mountains, the vineyards of Ken Forrester are considered by locals and wine lovers as the home of the Chenin Blanc.

The 40-hectare vineyard has over 36 hectares that are under vines today. The vines are chosen by the expert winemaking team after careful consideration. They started with pressing their own Sauvignon Blanc grapes; however, later, they also added other high-quality vines to their range such as the woody Chenin Blanc (a rare quality) and the Grenache (the first and only Grenache in the entire Stellenbosch region).

The Chenin Blancs are allowed to naturally ferment using lees and oak-filled barrels for the exclusive, woody flavour that wine lovers get to enjoy when they taste them. Some of the other varietals that are grown with extreme expertise here are Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Mourvedre and Petit Verdot.

The grape varietals that are used for making the elegant wines of this label are Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Mourvedre, Chenin Blanc, Pinotage, Roussanne, Viognier, Shiraz and Sauvignon Blanc. These wines are classified into four types – The Petit Range, Ken Forrester Reserve Range, Icon Range and Cellar Exclusives Range.

Petit Range – These wines are every day wines that are made from grapes cultivated in contracted vineyards.

Ken Forrester Range – These exclusive wines are made from grapes grown in the family-owned estate in Stellenbosch.

Icon Range – These are highly individualistic wines that are made from grapes sourced from single vineyards only. Hand-picking, harvesting fermenting and bottling of these grapes go through strict quality control to ensure only the best grapes are used for the wines.

Cellar Exclusives Range – These are the wines that are only available in the cellars of Ken Forrester.
