About Mamaku

If you want to understand the flavours and characters of the grapes grown in the rural areas of New Zealand, all you need to do is taste a glass of the scintillating Mamaku Wines. The Mamaku Blue farm stretches across 100 acres and is known for its blueberries as much as it is known for its wines. From 1980 to 1988, the farm was predominantly used for blueberry cultivation only. The idea of planting vines in this farm was conceptualised by the farm’s owners, Harry & Anne Frost, only during 1988.

After a few years, they set up the first and only winery in the city of Rotorua City and called the winery, Mamaku Blue. The Blueberry wine crafted here is considered as one of the best in the world and the wine is also the recipient of many local and international awards. The blueberries and gooseberries cultivated in this farm are the best in the entire area of the Bay of Plenty.

When you come on a tour to this place, you will be treated to the best varieties of blueberry ice creams, sauces, jams, jellies, chocolates, wines and more. This is a perfect place where you can come on a vacation with your family as it offers something for people of all age groups.  In the year 2001, when Philip, the son of Harry & Anne Frost joined the Mamaku Blue Winery, things started looking up for the brand in terms of its wine production and vinification techniques.

Philip introduced new harvesting methods in the farm, which not only improved the quantity of blueberry production but also the quality of the fruits. In the year 2006, the farm underwent a change in its name. It was no longer just a blueberry farm; it came to be addressed as the Mamaku Blue Blueberry Experience!
