About the Winery
The Maipo Valley in Chile is one of the best places to grow world-class vines. Realizing the winemaking potential of this place, the De Martino Family started their now-famous Nuevo Mundo wine brand, right here. The family started this brand with the aim of producing wines that have a close connection with nature.
In a bid to stay true to their goals, they started organic viticulture in these vineyards in the year 2001. Since then, they have been following some excellent organic techniques such as using recycled water, using cement, stainless steel and used barrels in the cellars and using wild yeasts for fermentation. Thanks to these organic methods, the winery of Nuevo Mundo became the first one in South America to be given the 100% Carbon-Neutral Certification.
Located at an equal distance from the Pacific Ocean and the Andes Mountains, the Isla De Maipo village is where you will find the vineyards. The alluvial-rich soil of this place, coupled with its mild Mediterranean climate, ensures that the grapes grown here are full of character and flavour. Stainless steel vats are used for ageing the white wines while cement and used French barrels are used for ageing the red wines.
The Nuevo Mundo wines are classified into two categories – Estate and Reserva. The Estate wines are those that are cultivated all over the Isla De Maipo vineyard. The label makes three wines in this category and the grapes used for the same are Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere and Sauvignon Blanc.
The Reserva category of wines is made from grapes planted on selected vines where the soil is highly fertile. The mature vines used here ensure that these wines are highly intense and elegant. This label makes two wines in this category and the grapes used for the same are Cabernet Sauvignon/Malbec and Viognier.
