Rosé Wine

Rose Wine is considered to be the oldest wine varieties in the world today. Though it exudes the colour of the skin of the grapes that are used for making it, it is not dark enough to be classified under the red wine category. You cannot miss the trademark onion-skin colour of bottle when you buy rose wine. The speciality of this wine is that it made using the skin contact method.

In this method, the skins of the black grapes are crushed well and allowed to be infused in the grape juice for about 20 hours, so that the wine incorporates the colour of these grape skins. After this infusion, the skins are discarded. When preparing red wine, these skins are allowed to remain throughout the fermentation process.

When you set out to buy rose wine, you will notice that it comes in different colours of pink – some light and some very dark shades. The wine’s colour intensity depends on the duration for which the grape skins are left in contact with the juice. Unlike other wine types, there are no specific grape types that are used for making rose wine. You can make it from almost any type, flavour, and character of grape fruit. However, you will notice that the Carignan, Cinsault, Syrah, Grenache, Sangiovese and Pinot Noir are the most commonly used grapes for making rose wine.

Many people buy rose wine today, because of its attractive price range. You will be happy to note that even the most premium rose wines are quite affordable when compared to other wine varieties. Contrary to popular belief, rose wine is not what you get when you mix red and white wine. Instead, it is the wine that uses some skins of the grape fruits infused in the juice for a long time.
