Product Notes

Serègo Alighieri MontePiazzo Valpolicella Classico Superiore dell'Anniversario is a premium red wine produced by Serègo Alighieri, one of the oldest wineries in the Valpolicella region of Italy. The wine is made using a blend of indigenous grape varieties, including Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara, and aged for at least 18 months in French oak barrels. Its deep ruby color and complex aromas of blackberries, cherries, and spices are followed by a full-bodied palate with velvety tannins and a long, persistent finish. This wine is a tribute to the 650th anniversary of the birth of the winery's founding father, Dante Alighieri, and is a perfect accompaniment to rich, meaty dishes.

Tasting Notes

Dark, bright red with purple reflections. On the nose intense, with hints of marasca cherries, vanilla and cinnamon. On the palate warming and fruit laden with good acidity and tannins. Long, fruity finish.

About the Winery

Serègo Alighieri

The history of this beautiful Italian Wine Estate dates back to as early as 1353. During this year, this majestic Tenuta Estate came under the control of Pietro Alighieri, the son of Dante the Poet. Known for its extremely high quality vineyards is located right in the center of the Valpolicella Classica district, a short distance from Verona. Lake Garda flows through this historic estate.

Today, 21 generations later, the Alighieri Family continues to run and manage the estate's affairs. Winemaking is still carried out with the same style and heritage that was followed during the time of Pietro in 1353, which is why the wines of this estate are noble, classy and elegant.

It is no wonder that this estate has the longest winemaking history and tradition in Valpolicella, since it has been in the business for over 650 years. In 1353, Pietro bought the historic estate of Casal dei Ronchi, located in Gargagnago, right in the heart of Valpolicella Classica. Till today, this estate continues to be the heart of wine production here.

In 1973, the Tenuta Serego Alighieri came under the prestigious Masi Group, and it continues to be one of the most prestigious and historical of this group to date. The courtyard of the vineyard region is lined with 11 ancient vines. These were planted in 1875 to mark the birth of the person who founded the Agricultural School in Gargagnago, Count Pieralvise. These vines grow the Serego Alighieri clone of the Molinara grape varietal.

At the cellars, the traditional, Venetian winemaking technique of Appassimento is used. The indigenous Valpolicella blend of grape varietals, such as Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara are allowed to dry on bamboo racks for about 100 days, before they proceed to the vinification process. These varietals are used for making some of the iconic wines of this region – Amarone and Recioto.
