Product Notes

Spinifex Papillon Red is a unique and intriguing wine that blends Grenache, Shiraz, and Mourvedre varietals from Australia's Barossa Valley. The wine's nose offers notes of dark fruit, spices, and earthy undertones. Upon sipping, its flavors are intense yet balanced, with ripe plum, cherry, and redcurrant giving way to a spicier finish with hints of anise and black pepper. The wine's texture is smooth, with soft tannins and a subtle acidity that make it easy to enjoy on its own or pair with a variety of dishes, including roasted lamb or grilled pork. Overall, Spinifex Papillon Red is a complex and delicious wine that showcases the unique character of the Barossa Valley.

About the Winery

Spinifex

Spinifex Wines, the Australian wine brand, was created with the main objective of flaunting the beauty of the Barossa Valley to the outside world. The wines crafted from this label are filled with character, elegance and balance. These are symbolic representations of the diversity and rich soil quality found in the Barossa and Eden Valleys of Australia.

Spinifex was created by Peter Schell and Magali Gely in 2001. They had stayed in the Barossa Valley for over two decades and understood the potential of the place quite well. Also, both of them had enough experience working in the world’s most premium wine region of France. Therefore, they put their experience and their knowledge to best use, to create the artistic Spinifex wine brand.

The grapes for these wines are sourced from the hundreds of small winegrowers located across Barossa and Eden Valleys, to make their wines highly diverse and elegant. The duo created this brand to make the most of the regional wines. The focus was to use the Mediterranean varietals such as Merlot, Syrah, Mataro, Grenache, Cinsault, Grenache Gris, Semillon, Marsanne, Ugni Blanc and Carignan to the best extent possible.

These grapes have been growing in the Barossa Valley for over 150 years; therefore, it is no surprise at all that the Spinifex wines have a peculiar regional flavour in them that you cannot find in most other wines. It is due to the passion with which this brand was created that one of its founders, Peter Schell, was a finalist in the 2019 Winemaker of the Year Contest.

Since a blend of old and new vines from the best lots of Barossa and Eden Valleys are chosen to make Spinifex Wines, you will find a lot of depth and intensity in the wines here.  Fruits exposed to various climatic conditions are blended well to make these wines, thereby making them a class apart from the rest.
