Product Notes

Spy Valley Single Vineyard Riesling is an excellent wine from the stable of Spy Valley Wines. It is made from 100% Riesling grapes, sourced from the Spy Valley's coveted Johnson Estate vineyard. The wine has a pale lemon color with a green tinge. On the nose, it has a vibrant aroma of lime, green apples, and honey with hints of jasmine. It is perfectly balanced with a crisp acidity and a distictive minerality that gives it a long finish, making it an excellent companion for food. The wine pairs well with spicy Thai or Indian curries and grilled seafood. Spy Valley Single Vineyard Riesling is a classic wine that is bold, vibrant, and refreshing, ideal for any occasion.

Tasting Notes

Notes of ginger, nectarine, sea-shell with anise, nougat and subtle spices on the nose. Lemon pith and white pepper on the palate, this is a dry mineral style, with a clean vibrant finish.

About the Winery

Spy Valley

If you are looking for a world-class winery, which fought against all odds to become one of the largest exporters of wines today, you should visit the beautiful Spy Valley Winery in New Zealand. Located in the Waihopai Valley in the wine-centric Marlborough region, this winery is spread over 400 acres. This winery was set up in the early 1900s by Bryan and Jan Johnson.

This is probably one of the few wineries in the world where 8 different types of exclusive grapes are grown in the same place. It has been producing award-winning wines year and after because the grapes produced here of premium quality. The varieties of grapes that you will find here are the Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot Cabernet,  Syrah, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, and Riesling. The Spy Valley Winery is one of the largest producers of Gewurztraminer grapes in New Zealand.

The grapes are fermented in huge oak barrels that have pores in them. This ensures that the flavour of the grapes stays in them long after the fruits have been removed from them. Therefore, when the same barrel is used for another batch of fermentation, it results in more flavours seeping in from the barrels, to make the wine tastier and richer than you could ever imagine. The wines produced in the Spy Valley winery have a wonderful structure because they are made from highly mature vines.

This winery has many secrets in it, which never ceases to surprise you, irrespective of however many times you visit the place. There is a separate and unique harvesting process followed for every of grape grown here. For example, the Sauvignon Blanc is harvested in the early morning, when the fruits are full of flavour. It is no wonder that this winery has been awarded the New Zealand Wine Producer of the Year award quite a few times.
