Product Notes

Undurraga Altazor is a Chilean red wine that is known for its rare and unique blend of three grape varieties – Syrah, Carignan, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine boasts a deep ruby color and exudes an intense and complex aroma of red and black fruits, such as blackberries, cherries, and plums. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, with a balanced acidity and a silky texture, providing a long and elegant finish. The tannins are delicate and well-integrated, adding a touch of complexity and structure to the wine. Undurraga Altazor is an exceptional wine that truly showcases the beauty and potential of Chilean winemaking.

Tasting Notes

An exceptional wine revealing expressive aromatic layers, balanced concentration and wonderful complexity. Deep red fruits and cassis are underpinned by mineral notes, graphite and tobacco. The structured palate shows depth of flavour and integrated tannins, through to an everlasting finish. Serve with rich red meats or mature cheese.

About the Winery

Undurraga

Established in 1885, Undurraga is not only one of the oldest but also one of the most respected wine companies in Chile. In 1903, the Undurraga wine group became the first Chilean winery to export wines to the US. Today, these wines are exported to over 70 countries and are loved by wine connoisseurs across the globe.

Francisco Undurraga, the founder of this company, began planting the first Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir in the vineyards here, after they were imported from France. The vines of Riesling and Gewurztraminer were imported from Germany. It was around 1883, that he started planning the Undurraga winery. The wood for the oak barrels in which the wines were fermented, was imported from Bosnia.

Currently, there are close to 1350 hectares of vineyards under the control of Undurraga. These are spread across the premium wine-producing areas of Chile such as Maipo Valley, Colchagua Valley, Almahue Valley, Leyda Valley and Maule Valley. The soil and terroir qualities in each of these valleys are completely diverse from one another.

The Santa Ana de Talagante Estate and Codigua Estate are part of the Maipo Valley. The former contains 55 hectares under vines and is great for growing Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Carmenere and Chardonnay. The latter covers an area of 204 hectares dedicated to reds & whites. Apart from these usual reds, whites such as Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon are also found here.

The Colchagua estate, a part of the Colchagua Valley, contains 169 hectares dedicated to reds and whites. The Cerros de Almahue Estate, a part of the Almahue Valley, has 120 hectares under vines, dedicated exclusively to red grapes. The Lomas de Leyda Estate, a part of the Leyda Valley, contains 169 hectares dedicated to reds and whites. The Cauquenes Estate, a part of the Maule Valley, has 146 hectares of vines of red and white varietals.
