Product Notes

Vasse Felix Filius Cabernet Sauvignon is a premium wine from one of the oldest and most prestigious wineries in Australia. This wine is made with select, estate-grown grapes that are carefully tended and harvested at optimal ripeness. A deep garnet color, this Cabernet Sauvignon delivers a rich aroma of blackcurrant, chocolate and mint, with hints of cedar and spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied and well-balanced, with a smooth and long-lasting finish. This wine is perfect to enjoy on its own or paired with grilled meats or strong cheeses. It is also an excellent choice for cellaring, as it can age gracefully for years to come. Overall, Vasse Felix Filius Cabernet Sauvignon is a top-tier wine that delivers exceptional quality and flavor.

Tasting Notes

A deep perfume with blackcurrant, blueberry and coffee mocha complexities. Notes of dusty earth and woody perennial herbs mingle with hints of nori, dried forest leaves and wild mushrooms to create an inviting aroma. A light fragrant entrance with blackcurrant, raspberry and pot pourri builds to earthy complexities and fine dry dusty tannins which serve to frame the fruit. A comfortable, soft, juicy body and tannin profile finishes the wine fresh and long.

About the Winery

Vasse Felix

Vasse Felix was established by Dr Tom Cullity in 1967, making it the first vineyard estate of Margaret River. The river enjoys a great climate and environment that attracts winemakers to it, for which it is also considered one of the finest areas for growing vines in the world.

After working as a successful cardiologist in Australia and Britain, Dr Cullity ventured into winemaking with the exposure gained of the finest wines in Europe. After searching the entire country for a place with red gravel in redgum country, having clay 18 inches below the surface, Dr Cullity settled on a small piece of land, the Vasse Felix home vineyard. There, he planted eight hectares of Houghton clone Cabernet Sauvignon vines. Though he was ridiculed, his persistence led to creating the first wines in the Margaret River area. Dr Tom Cullity is also considered one of the founders of the Margaret River Wine Region. Vasse Felix is driven by the aim of Dr Tom Cullity- to make the best possible wine.

The wines from Vasse Felix focus on Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Shiraz and blends of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc, intending to show the strength of the Margaret River in every drop. The grapes are grown in the four vineyards in Margaret River and is vinified and bottled in the estate’s modern winery located at Vasse Felix’s home vineyard.

The Home Vineyard houses the Vasse Felix Cellar Door and Restaurant, considered Australia’s best winery destination experience. Situated only 4km from the ocean, the vineyard receives enhanced sea breeze exposure due to the Wilyabrup ridge elevation. The vineyard also houses lean, well-drained grave loam soils that are suited for Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.

The Boojdidup vineyard is situated in the middle of the Margaret River Wine Region and experiences more excellent climatic conditions than the Home Vineyard. The vineyard is suited for Chardonnay, Shiraz, and Sauvignon Blanc cultivation due to the free-draining laterite soil.

The Karridale vineyard is a speciality site for the Blanc de Blancs and houses the Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Semillon. The Adam Roads Vineyard is the largest vineyard of Vasse Felix and is suitable for growing fruit for the Regional and Classic Collection wines.
