Product Notes

Weingut Markus Molitor Graacher Himmelreich Auslese ** (Gold Cap) is a German wine that is simply exquisite. Its complex aroma combines honeydew melon, white flowers, a hint of caramel and a delicate mineral undertone. On the palate, it is rich and luscious with bright acidity and a long, smooth finish. It is made from 100% Riesling grapes, which are hand-picked from the Mosel region's steep slopes at optimal ripeness. The grapes are then carefully selected, pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks. This wine is perfect for pairing with spicy foods or rich desserts. It is a true gem and a testament to the winemaking skills of Markus Molitor.

Tasting Notes

The wine opens super piquant and concentrated on the nose, with intense and fresh lime and some smoky slate aromas. Concentrated and fine, with a piquant and highly elegant character, this is a fresh and citrus-fruity Graacher Auslese with piquancy and coolish precision. Exciting and highly digestible.

About the Winery

Weingut Markus Molitor

Markus Molitor is a 8th generation winemaker from the Molitor family. He took over his father’s winery in the mid-1980s to produce some exceptional Riesling wines from the region of Moselle in Germany. Today, many aspiring winemakers consider him as the Riesling ambassador of the German wine industry. Markus operates with the main aim of producing natural wines in the vineyard and cellar, with minimal intervention and utmost respect to the terroirs.

The German Rieslings from the Moselle and Saar regions were one of the most expensive wines (even costlier than Burgundy and Bordeaux wines) in the world in the early 1800s. The elevated vineyards of Moselle, Saar and Ruwer, along with the microclimate and beautiful terroirs of the place helped to create Rieslings with amazing minerality and elegance.

All Molitor wines are cultivated on some of the best parcels of Moselle as follows:

  • Bernkasteler Doctor – 0.13-hectares; Devonian slate soils
  • Bernkasteler Badstube  - Slate and fine soils for fruity wines
  • Bernkasteler Lay – 11-hectares; ancient vines
  • Graacher Cathedral Provost – 17-hectares; clay slate soils
  • Graacher Kingdom of Heaven – 57-hectares; clay slate soils
