Product Notes

Weingut Markus Molitor Riesling Alte Reben is a German white wine that reflects the unique terroir of the Mosel region. The grapes used to make this wine are harvested from vineyards with old vines, which add depth and character to the final product. Markus Molitor is known for his meticulous attention to detail and traditional winemaking techniques, which are evident in the elegant and complex Riesling Alte Reben. It boasts aromas of citrus and stone fruit, with a hint of minerality. On the palate, it is crisp and refreshing with a balanced acidity and a long, lingering finish. A truly exceptional wine that exemplifies the best of German Riesling.

Tasting Notes

A golden, flinty wine made from 60-year-old vines (Alte Reben means 'old vine'). White pepper, apple, nectarine and clove on the nose are followed by a complex, fruity and mineral palate.

About the Winery

Weingut Markus Molitor

Markus Molitor is a 8th generation winemaker from the Molitor family. He took over his father’s winery in the mid-1980s to produce some exceptional Riesling wines from the region of Moselle in Germany. Today, many aspiring winemakers consider him as the Riesling ambassador of the German wine industry. Markus operates with the main aim of producing natural wines in the vineyard and cellar, with minimal intervention and utmost respect to the terroirs.

The German Rieslings from the Moselle and Saar regions were one of the most expensive wines (even costlier than Burgundy and Bordeaux wines) in the world in the early 1800s. The elevated vineyards of Moselle, Saar and Ruwer, along with the microclimate and beautiful terroirs of the place helped to create Rieslings with amazing minerality and elegance.

All Molitor wines are cultivated on some of the best parcels of Moselle as follows:

  • Bernkasteler Doctor – 0.13-hectares; Devonian slate soils
  • Bernkasteler Badstube  - Slate and fine soils for fruity wines
