Product Notes

Woodlands Clementine Cab/Merlot/Malbec/Petit Verdot is a blend of four noble varieties from one of Western Australia's most celebrated wineries. This complex and full-bodied wine is dominated by the rich dark fruit flavors of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, which are complemented by the herbal notes of Malbec and the deep colors of Petit Verdot. The nose is a complex blend of brambleberries, black currants, and delicate floral notes. The palate is resplendent with flavors of dark fruit, oak, vanilla, and a slight spice hint that is nicely integrated into the finish. This wine pairs exceptionally well with red meats, hearty stews, and hard cheeses.

About the Winery

Woodlands

It was during 1981 that Woodlands, the Margaret River Valley-based winery in Australia, released its first wine in the market. However, the brand didn’t release any wine after that for more than a decade as the founders, David & Heather Watson, wanted to focus on their kids’ education. This was until 1991. During this time, all the fruits produced by Woodlands vineyards were sold to other wine producers.

The year 2007 was an important one for the Woodlands winery. This was because the company purchased the Woodlands Brook Vineyard in the picturesque Wilyabrup Valley. Thanks to this vineyard, the 2nd generation of the Watson family has explored opportunities to plant intense Cabernet Sauvignon on the interesting soils in the Wilyabrup Valley.

The two vineyards, where the fruits are grown for Woodlands wines are the following:

Woodlands Vineyards

This is certified organic vineyard that was established in 1973. Here, you will notice these plantations:

  • Cabernet Sauvignon on 6.80 hectares
  • Merlot - 1.2 hectares
  • Chardonnay and Malbec on 0.80 hectares each
  • Pinot Noir - 0.20 hectares
  • Petit Verdot - 0.08 hectares
  • Cabernet Franc- 0.02 hectares

Woodlands Brook Vineyards

This vineyard, in the Wilyabrup Valley, was established in 2001. Here, the vines are planted at a distance of 2m from each other. The soil here is quite diverse as you will find a mixture of gravel, loam and white clay on these vineyards. There are the plantations that you will notice here:

  • Chardonnay - 6.90 hectares
  • Cabernet Sauvignon - 5 hectares
  • Merlot – 2.50 hectares
