About Dobogo

The small Hungarian town of Tokaj is known for its rich tradition and heritage. In the earlier days, this town witnessed a lot of movement of horses as the animals galloped past the vineyards of Tokaj at great speed. Taking inspiration from this history, the Dobogo winery was set up in this town in 1995. Dobogo refers to the sound that the hooves of the horses made on the cobblestones.

Dobogo is not a flashy name in the wine market. It is a small, family-run winery that is currently run by Izabella Zwack. She is ably supported by an experienced winemaker, Attila Domokos. A major highlight at this winery is that the centuries-old Tokaj heritage is mixed with the fresh & innovative ideas of the winemakers while preparing the beautifully crafted wines.

The grapes for the Dobogo Wines are cultivated in organic vineyards that are spread across a small area of 5 hectares. The vines are cultivated across Mad, Szent Tamas and Uragya Vineyards. The grapes are planted on 28 vineyard sites spread across some of the best wine regions of Tokaj, include the three-decade old vineyards at Betsek and Palota. Izabella brought all her experience in crafting the Dobogo wines because of her rich experience of working in some of the best wineries in Australia’s Margaret River region. She, along with her team, ensures that she spends a lot of time in using organic methods to plant some of the indigenous varietals of Furmint, Harslevelu and Muscat Lunel.

The Dobogo Tokaji Dry Furmint is one of the most popular wines created by this brand. This is an aromatic wine with a lot of creaminess and minerality. It is made from 100% Furmint grapes. The fruits for this wine are grown in the old vineyards of Betsek and Szent Tamas. This is regarded as the driest of all Dobogo wines.
