About Haras de Pirque

Set up in the Upper Maipo Valley in Chile, the Haras de Pirque winery was established during 1892. However, during that time, this place was only used as a racing stable. It was not until 1991 that winemaking began in this region by Eduardo Matte and the Antinori Family. It was a year later that vines were planted at the vineyards here. To date, the wines of this label use only the fruits grown in the company’s own estate.

Today, this brand is known for making one of the best Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenere wines not only in Chile, but in the world. The wine estate is located in a scenic location known as Pirque, one of the heritage-rich places in the Maipo Valley. Located at the foothills of the Andes Mountains, this estate is blessed with excellent climate, soil quality, terroir conditions and altitudes to grow flavour-rich and intense fruits.

The colours, tannins and structure of the fruits grown here are of very high concentration. This is because the vines are planted at an average height of 550 to 600m above sea level. The vineyards are located towards the south of Maipo River. The combination of mountains, rivers and the nearby Pacific Ocean gives this a place with a semi-arid Mediterranean climate. Therefore, the grapes are naturally and slowly ripened to ensure that only the ultimate quality of grapes are processed in the winery.

Vertical shoot position is the direction that is used for planting the vines. This way, the vine growers here ensure that all the vines get the right amount of sunlight and ventilation needed for growing to their full potential. In the year 2006, organic farming was started at these vineyards. Natural compost has replaced herbicides, while natural yeasts are used for the fermentation process. Therefore, the wines reflect the true character of the fruits when they are bottled.
