The result is a complex and harmonious wine that showcases rich notes of dark fruit, chocolate, and earthy undertones. The tannins are smooth and well-integrated, providing a velvety mouthfeel that lingers on the palate. Whether enjoyed on its own or paired with a hearty meal, Barons de Rothschild Lafite/Catena- Bodegas CARO Petit Caro is sure to impress even the most discerning wine connoisseur.

Tasting Notes

Deep red color with intense ruby hues. Very fruity on the nose, with blackcurrant, strawberry, floral and minty notes coming through, followed by aromas of cassis, graphite and coffee bean. On the palate, the wine is balanced and pleasant, with texture, and refined tannins. A fruity middle palate leads to an elegant and long aftertaste.

About the Winery

Barons de Rothschild Lafite/Catena- Bodegas CARO

The partnership between barons de Rothschild Lafite and Catena family started in 1999. It started as an idea which eventually turned into a concrete plan to create a stable wine in an effort to combine the Argentine and French cultures. This was to be done using the signature grapes of the producers. These are cabernet sauvignon and malbec.

For four generations the Catena family has been involved in wine production. The company was able to get great knowledge from the terroirs in Mendoza and a passion for the signature grape malbec. Baron de Rothschild Lafite brought to the table centuries of growing skills, ageing, and vinifying cabernet sauvignon. The company also brought its knowledge in blending all sorts of grape varieties to come up with a much greater wine.

In 1999, selection and exchange work started to create the first vintage. This was achieved in 2000. Because of the early vintages success, another wine was created based on a balance between the Bordeaux style and the Argentinian identity. Pure malbec was chosen to celebrate the Argentine grape variety to start the 2010 vintage.

When domains baron de Rothschild and Catena family joined forces, one of the top things was to pick a terroir that would help enhance an alliance between cabernet sauvignon and malbec. The selected grapes are from bodega Caris’s vineyard. From the vineyards the best has been selected to represent the terroirs of the area. It is a well-known place for cabernet sauvignon and malbec.

The terroirs are located in different places. The first zone is called this because this is where malbec was first planted in the area. The wines made in this area are some of the best. The ranges altitude is 800-950 meters. The average temperature stands at 23 degrees.

The next region is Uco valley Tunuyan. This is a new wine region that is an hour from Mendoza. This area has the most impressive landscape and has glaciers and snow overlooking the vineyards and the river. Caring for the vineyards results in great outcomes.
