Tasting Note

The Cederberg Cabernet Sauvignon 2021, re-tasted in January 2025, shows all the richness and opulence of the wine when it was first released. While the vibrancy of the fruit is still very evident, the wine has developed a compelling black olive salty savouriness. The palate is chalky with a ripe fruit presence and lingering finish. The tannins are silky, seamless and perfectly integrated. This is an extraordinary wine, full of dichotomies. Complex while approachable, savoury with sweet ripe fruit, incredibly drinkable now but will reward those with patience. - Sandy Harper

Product Notes

Cederberg Cabernet Sauvignon is a rich, full-bodied red wine from the Cederberg Mountains of South Africa. Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, it is a well-balanced wine with intense flavors of black currant, blackberry, and hints of vanilla and oak. The tannins are firm and substantial, making it a perfect match for hearty red meat dishes. The grapes are carefully selected and handpicked to ensure the high quality of this wine. This wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels which adds a lovely complexity of flavor and texture. Cederberg Cabernet Sauvignon is a testament to the quality and commitment of South African wine-making.

About the Winery

Cederberg

The history of South Africa’s Cederberg Wines dates back to as early as 1893. It was during this time that the Nieuwoudt family moved to the farm area of Dwarsrivier, today known as the Cederberg Private Cellar and Sanddrif Holiday Resort. Though the farm is quite huge, only around 66 hectares are used for cultivation to protect flora and fauna here. Currently, the fifth generation of the Nieuwoudt family manages the Cederberg wine brand, which is regarded as one of the best high-altitude wines from South Africa.
