About the Winery

The origins and history of Château Haut-Bergey go back to as late as the 15th century. The initial property or nucleus of the winery remained as a part of the mayne of Ponteil. It was a new and distinct stronghold created by the lords of the land, La Louvière and Olivier. The noble house of the region stood under the Old Regime in a site near the castle. For several centuries, the property and its surrounding lands remained under the ownership of the Conseillers du Ro. In addition to that, they belonged to the merchants and travellers from Bordeaux. They came to make their home in the place. These people served as the core of all the vine-growing and winemaking activity of the region.

The elegant and remarkable mansion of Château Haut-Bergey that exists today got built back around the mid-years of the 19th century. At that time, the concept and practice of winemaking received several benefits and assistances. It could get owed to the advantageous economic situation that prevailed. Nevertheless, the vineyards gradually transformed into a holiday resort, welcoming visitors and tourists from all across the globe. It was in 1957 that the idea of viticulture got reintroduced there. A few years into the future, acquiring a section of the neighbouring Bergey estate allowed the winery to symbolise its comeback and revival by adopting and utilizing the Château Haut-Bergey name.

In 1991, the Garcin family took over as the owners of Château Haut-Bergey. They got lured in by the high-quality lands of the area. Today, Sylviane Garcin-Cathiard manages the property and its large-scale rehabilitation plan. It applies to both the cellars and the grapevines.
