The wine history of Chile dates back to as early as the 16th century when the Spanish explorers brought a common grape vine of Europe, the Vitis Vinifera along with them to Chile.  By the 19th century, Chile had the required climate and soil terrors to cultivate French-style grape varietals such as the Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Franc and Carmenere. Today,  Chile is recognised as one of the few places in the world that produce high-quality wines.

Wine producing areas in Chile

Most of the vineyards in Chile stretch from the Elqui Valley in the north to Malleco in the south and from the Andes Mountain Folds in the East to the hillsides in the western Pacific region.  The wines crafted in Chile are quite diverse because each of the wine producing regions is blessed with unique climate and remarkable soil quality.

Diverse Geography main reason behind world-class wines

Chile is bound by diverse geographical landmarks on all its four sides. The Atacama Desert and the Patagonian Ice Fields are located towards the north and south of Chile respectively. On the east and west regions, Chile has the geographical barriers of the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean respectively. The blend of mountain and sea climate provide 100% protection to the vineyards here and help them grow unique quality and character of grape varietals.
