About A.A. Badenhorst

Described by Neal Martin as a winemaker who “epitomises the carefree spirit” of the Swartland, Adi Badenhorst is a natural ambassador for both the region and its wines. Raised on a wine farm in Constantia, Adi trained at Elsenberg and honed his craft at renowned estates including Château Angélus, Alain Graillot and Rustenburg Estate before returning home to South Africa.

In 2008, Adi and his cousin Hein established A.A. Badenhorst Family Wines on the historic Kalmoesfontein farm in the Paardeberg. The property is home to exceptional old bush-vine Chenin Blanc, Cinsault and Grenache, planted between the 1950s and 1970s. These vineyards are rooted in ancient granite, quartz and iron-rich koffieklip soils and spread across varied slopes, contributing to wines of fragrance, depth and individuality.

With a philosophy centred on attentive, hands-on viticulture and minimal-intervention winemaking, Adi Badenhorst seeks to capture an honest expression of the Swartland’s unique terroir in every bottle.
