About Bessa Valley

Bessa Valley Winery, located near the town of Pazardzhik in southern Bulgaria, is one of the country’s most prestigious modern estates. The winery was founded in 2001 through a partnership between Count Stephan von Neipperg, a renowned Bordeaux producer who owns Château Canon La Gaffelière in Saint-Émilion, and Bulgarian entrepreneur Dr. Karl Hauptmann. Their shared vision was to revive Bulgaria’s ancient winemaking traditions while introducing world-class viticulture and French expertise.

The 250-hectare estate sits in a picturesque valley surrounded by the Rhodope Mountains, benefiting from a continental climate with warm days and cool nights — ideal for producing balanced, expressive wines. The vineyards are planted mainly with Merlot, Syrah, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Sauvignon, alongside a small amount of local varieties.

Bessa Valley’s winemaking team combines traditional methods with modern technology, emphasizing precision and respect for the fruit. The wines are crafted under the guidance of Stephan von Neipperg’s experienced Bordeaux team, ensuring a refined European character.

The flagship label, Enira, represents the estate’s philosophy of elegance and power, while Enira Reserva and Grand Enira showcase greater complexity and oak influence. Today, Bessa Valley stands as a benchmark for Bulgarian fine wine, bridging Old World finesse with New World energy.
