About Bodega Agerre
Bodega Agerre is a family-owned winery in the heart of the Getariako Txakolina DO, overlooking the medieval fishing village of Getaria on Spain's Basque coast, just a short drive from San Sebastián. Owned by the Ostolaza family, the estate has been producing Txakoli for three generations, with Emilio Agerre continuing the family's winemaking tradition. The 15-hectare vineyard is dedicated primarily to the indigenous Hondarrabi Zuri grape, the cornerstone of the region's distinctive white wines.
The estate's 20 to 30-year-old vines are planted on steep, east-facing hillsides that capture the morning sun while being sheltered from prevailing Atlantic winds. The cool, humid maritime climate, combined with sandy, organic-rich soils and excellent natural drainage, creates ideal conditions for producing fresh, aromatic wines. To improve airflow and reduce disease pressure, the vines are trained almost two metres above the ground using the traditional Basque trellising system.
Bodega Agerre crafts its Txakoli from 100% Hondarrabi Zuri, fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel to preserve the grape's purity and vibrant character. The result is a crisp, naturally low-alcohol wine with lively acidity, subtle natural spritz, and flavours of green apple, citrus and saline minerality that reflect its close proximity to the Bay of Biscay.
