About Bodega Lanzaga

Bodega Lanzaga is the personal project of renowned winemaker Telmo Rodríguez, launched in the late 1990s in the village of Lanciego, in Rioja Alavesa. Alongside his long-time collaborator Pablo Eguzkiza, Telmo set out to reconnect with the historic roots of Rioja winemaking—long before industrialization and standardized classifications took hold.

The winery focuses on organically farmed, old-vine vineyards, many of them small plots reclaimed and restored by hand. These parcels, planted mostly with Tempranillo, Graciano, and Garnacha, are spread across diverse soils and elevations, giving each wine its own personality. Instead of using Rioja’s traditional Crianza or Reserva labels, Lanzaga follows a terroir-first philosophy, inspired more by Burgundy than by modern Rioja.

The range starts with LZ, a fresh, unoaked red from younger vines; Corriente, a smooth, everyday Rioja that nods to the region’s past; and Lanzaga, their flagship wine blending fruit from the best estate plots. At the top are several stunning single-vineyard wines, including La Estrada and Las Beatas, the latter earning 100 points from the Parker Guide—an extraordinary achievement for any Spanish wine.

Bodega Lanzaga is a bold expression of place and heritage, combining deep respect for tradition with a clear, modern vision.
