About Chateau Dereszla
Château Dereszla is a historic winery located in Bodrogkeresztúr, at the heart of Hungary’s Tokaj wine region. The estate dates back to the 15th century and was originally used by Hungarian royalty to store wine. Over the centuries, it passed through the hands of several noble families, including the Habsburgs and the Rákóczi princes. After nationalization under communism, it was briefly owned by a French cooperative before being acquired by the prestigious d’Aulan family in 2000. Since 2016, it has been back in Hungarian hands, with a local team managing operations.
The estate owns around 40 hectares of vineyards, with access to a total of 130 hectares through long-term grower partnerships. These vineyards lie on some of Tokaj’s top Grand Cru sites like Dereszla, Lapis, Henye, and Várhegy. Beneath the winery, a labyrinth of centuries-old cellars stretches over a kilometre, providing ideal conditions for aging their iconic sweet wines, especially the renowned Tokaji Aszú and Essencia. In 2015, Château Dereszla expanded with the opening of the Henye Winery, which also produces méthode traditionnelle sparkling wines.
Château Dereszla’s wine range is diverse, offering dry whites from native varieties like Furmint, Hárslevelű, and Kabar, as well as late harvest and szamorodni styles. Their flagship remains the Tokaji Aszú, made from botrytized grapes and aged in oak. Export plays a major role in their business, with roughly 80% of production sold internationally across more than 40 countries. With modern facilities, a deep respect for Tokaj’s heritage, and a dynamic team, Château Dereszla remains a leading name in Hungarian winemaking.
