About Château Palmer
The estate takes its name from Major General Charles Palmer, a British officer who acquired the property in 1814 and expanded its reputation.
Château Palmer's modern success began in the 20th century under the control of the Sichel and Mahler-Besse families. Since 1998, the estate has been co-owned by the Sichel family and the Mähler-Besse family. Thomas Duroux, a former winemaker at Ornellaia, has managed the estate since 2004 and introduced biodynamic viticulture, significantly enhancing wine quality and sustainability.
The estate spans around 66 hectares, planted mostly with Merlot (47%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (47%), an unusual balance for the Left Bank, along with Petit Verdot (6%). Palmer’s wines are known for their elegance, complexity, and aging potential, often showing floral notes, richness, and finesse. In addition to its Grand Vin, Château Palmer produces a second wine, Alter Ego de Palmer, which is crafted with a more approachable style and earlier drinking window.
