About Château Pape Clément

Château Pape Clément is one of Bordeaux’s oldest and most prestigious wine estates, located in Pessac-Léognan, just outside the city of Bordeaux. Its history dates back to 1300 when Bertrand de Goth, the future Pope Clement V, received the vineyard as a gift upon becoming Archbishop of Bordeaux. The estate was named in his honour and has produced wine continuously for over 700 years, making it one of the oldest documented vineyards in the region.

Today, Château Pape Clément is owned by Bernard Magrez, a prominent figure in the wine world known for his investment in top-tier estates across France and beyond. Since acquiring the château in 1980, Magrez has poured significant resources into modernising the winery while preserving its heritage, elevating the estate to Grand Cru Classé status.

The estate produces both red and white wines, with its red blend typically dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. These wines are known for their elegance, structure, and ageing potential. The white wines, made from Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and Muscadelle, are rich and aromatic, with great finesse. Château Pape Clément stands as a symbol of Bordeaux’s enduring winemaking tradition and innovation.
