About Château Pichon-Longueville Baron
Château Pichon-Longueville Baron is a prestigious winery located in the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux's Left Bank, France. It is classified as a Second Growth (Deuxième Cru) in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. The estate's origins date back to 1694 when Baron Jacques Pichon de Longueville married Thérèse de Rauzan, uniting two influential winemaking families. The estate was eventually divided in 1850 between his heirs, creating two separate châteaux: Pichon Baron and Pichon Comtesse de Lalande.
Château Pichon-Longueville Baron, often simply referred to as "Pichon Baron," has a reputation for producing powerful, structured wines with exceptional aging potential. The striking neo-Renaissance château, built in 1851, stands as one of the most photographed in Bordeaux.
In 1987, the AXA Millésimes insurance group purchased the estate, investing heavily in modernizing the winemaking facilities and restoring the château and vineyards. Under AXA's ownership and the direction of estate manager Christian Seely since 2000, Pichon Baron has regained its stature as one of Pauillac’s top performers, with consistent critical acclaim.
The estate encompasses around 73 hectares of vineyards, primarily planted with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, reflecting the classic Left Bank style.
