Chris Ringland

Chris Ringland is one of Australia’s most respected and enigmatic winemakers, known for crafting powerful, age-worthy Shiraz from the Barossa Valley. His small, eponymous winery is located near the town of Barossa Ranges, in South Australia’s famed Barossa region. The property, perched high above the valley floor, benefits from cooler temperatures and ancient, rocky soils that give his wines remarkable depth and structure. Ringland purchased the site in the late 1980s and quickly gained international recognition for his intensely concentrated Shiraz wines, which became cult classics among collectors.

The winery remains independently owned and operated by Chris Ringland himself, with a focus on minimal intervention and traditional techniques such as open-top fermentation and long oak maturation. Production is extremely limited, often just a few hundred cases per vintage, allowing for meticulous attention to detail. Alongside his flagship Shiraz, Ringland produces several other labels, including “CR” Shiraz and “Dimchurch” Shiraz, each expressing different aspects of Barossa terroir. His wines are known for their rich texture, bold fruit, and exceptional aging potential.
