Domaine aux Moines

Domaine aux Moines is a historic estate situated in the Anjou region of the Loire Valley. The estate holds 12 hectares of the tiny 22-hectare Grand Cru appellation of Savennières Roche-aux-Moines, giving it an unparalleled footprint in the region. The south and southwest-facing slopes are composed of volcanic schist, quartz, and phtanite soils directly above the Loire River, yielding intense, dry white wines built for decades of aging.

Monastic viticulture on this ground dates back to the 12th century, originally planted by Cistercian monks from the Abbaye de Saint-Nicolas d'Angers. The modern estate was established in 1981 when Monique Laroche acquired the property. Her daughter, enologist Tessa Laroche, assumed management in 2001. Under Tessa’s leadership, the estate modernized cellar equipment, achieved organic certification in 2011, and transitioned to biodynamic farming—raising the wines to international acclaim.
