About Il Borghetto
Il Borghetto is a small, artisanal winery located in San Casciano in Val di Pesa, within the Chianti Classico region of Tuscany. The estate was founded in the early 2000s by Antonio Cavallino and his family, who envisioned creating wines that express authenticity, purity, and a deep sense of place. From the beginning, the focus has been on low-intervention, terroir-driven winemaking, emphasizing the individuality of each vineyard parcel rather than conforming to traditional appellation norms.
The estate spans about 30 hectares, with roughly 11 hectares under vine, planted mainly to Sangiovese, along with small amounts of Canaiolo and Colorino. The vineyards are cultivated organically and biodynamically, with minimal use of machinery and no chemical inputs, reflecting the Cavallino family’s commitment to sustainability and respect for the land.
Il Borghetto produces a limited range of wines, including Montigiano, Bilaccio, and Clante, each sourced from specific plots and vinified separately to capture subtle differences in soil and microclimate. The wines are known for their elegance, freshness, and refined tannic structure—modern yet firmly rooted in Tuscan tradition. By combining precision in the vineyard with a natural approach in the cellar, Il Borghetto has earned recognition for its thoughtful and distinctive expression of Sangiovese.
