About Massican

Massican is a boutique winery in Napa Valley, founded in 2009 by Dan Petroski. Before becoming a winemaker, Petroski worked in publishing and later spent time in Sicily, where he developed a love for Italian white wines. After honing his craft in California, he launched Massican to bring a fresh, Mediterranean-inspired perspective to Napa, focusing almost exclusively on crisp, mineral-driven whites.

What sets Massican apart is its dedication to Italian grape varieties rarely seen in Napa. The flagship wine, Annia, blends Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, and Chardonnay in a style reminiscent of Friuli. Other bottlings include Gemina, which highlights southern Italian grapes like Greco and Falanghina, alongside classics such as Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay from renowned Napa vineyards. All of the wines are known for their vibrant acidity, freshness, and food-friendly character, standing in contrast to the region’s more typical, fuller-bodied styles.

In 2023, Massican entered a new chapter when it was acquired by E. & J. Gallo Winery. The deal included the brand and inventory but not vineyards or a tasting room. Dan Petroski continues as winemaker and creative lead, ensuring the winery’s vision—of making elegant, Mediterranean-inspired white wines in Napa—remains firmly intact.
