About Moorooduc Estate

Moorooduc Estate is one of the pioneering boutique wineries of Australia's Mornington Peninsula, renowned for its elegant, terroir-driven Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Located in Moorooduc, approximately an hour south of Melbourne in Victoria, the family estate has played an important role in establishing the region's reputation for premium cool-climate wines.

The winery was founded in 1982 by Richard and Jill McIntyre, who recognised the potential of the Mornington Peninsula's maritime climate and distinctive soils. Richard, a former surgeon with a passion for wine, became one of the region's influential winemakers, developing a philosophy centred on expressing vineyard character through traditional, minimally interventionist techniques. Their daughter Kate McIntyre, a Master of Wine, subsequently joined the family business, bringing extensive expertise in viticulture, wine education and marketing.

The estate's vineyards are planted predominantly to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with smaller quantities of Pinot Gris and Shiraz. Mornington Peninsula's cooling coastal influences, long growing season and varied soils provide ideal conditions for producing wines with natural acidity, aromatic complexity and refined structure.

Moorooduc Estate is particularly celebrated for its Estate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, alongside the premium McIntyre Vineyard bottlings and limited-production single-vineyard releases. These wines showcase the subtle differences between vineyard sites and vintages.

In the cellar, the approach emphasises wild-yeast fermentation, gentle handling, restrained intervention and carefully managed oak maturation. The resulting wines combine purity of fruit with texture, complexity and savoury depth, reflecting both the estate's longstanding commitment to traditional winemaking and the distinctive character of the Mornington Peninsula.
