About Moss Wood

Moss Wood Winery is a landmark estate in the Margaret River wine region of Western Australia, situated in the northern sub-region of Wilyabrup. Founded in 1969 by Dr. Bill and Sandra Pannell, it was one of the first estates in the area to plant Cabernet Sauvignon, helping to establish Margaret River’s reputation for premium wines.

In 1984, Keith Mugford joined Moss Wood as winemaker, and a year later he and his wife Clare took full ownership of the estate. Under their guidance, the winery has become synonymous with quality and innovation, with Keith overseeing both winemaking and viticulture.

Moss Wood is best known for its exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon, widely regarded as one of Australia’s finest, but it also produces outstanding Chardonnay, Semillon, and Pinot Noir. In 2000, the Mugfords expanded the estate by acquiring the Ribbon Vale vineyard, further enhancing their portfolio of wines.

Today, Moss Wood remains a family-owned winery, with sons Hugh and Tristan carrying forward the legacy of excellence. The estate offers private visits by appointment, allowing guests to experience its rich history, carefully tended vineyards, and celebrated wines in an intimate and personal setting.
