About Pago de los Capellanes
Pago de los Capellanes is one of the most admired names in Spain’s Ribera del Duero, celebrated for crafting elegant, terroir-driven wines that balance power with finesse. The estate was founded in 1996 by José María and Conchita Rodero, who had long dreamed of producing wines that captured the soul of the region. Their vision was rooted in respect for tradition but with a modern, precise approach to viticulture and winemaking. Today, the winery remains family-owned, with the next generation carrying forward the project.
The vineyards are situated near Pedrosa de Duero, at around 800 meters of altitude, where the combination of limestone-rich soils, harsh winters, and hot summers create the ideal conditions for Tempranillo (Tinto Fino), the estate’s signature grape. Low yields and careful vineyard management ensure concentration and purity of fruit.
Pago de los Capellanes produces a range of highly regarded wines, from their flagship Crianza and Reserva to limited single-vineyard bottlings such as El Nogal and Parcela El Picón, each reflecting the character of its site. With a style marked by depth, balance, and longevity, the estate has earned an international reputation as one of Ribera del Duero’s benchmarks, combining family passion with a pursuit of excellence.
