About Philippe Alliet
Domaine Philippe Alliet is a renowned family-owned winery located in Cravant-les-Côteaux, at the heart of the Chinon appellation in France’s Loire Valley. Founded in the mid-1980s by Philippe and Claude Alliet, the estate has become one of the benchmarks for modern Chinon wines. Philippe inherited old family vineyards and, alongside his wife and later their son Pierre, transformed the domaine with a commitment to low yields, precision viticulture, and meticulous cellar work. Their approach combines traditional Loire Valley sensibility with inspiration from Bordeaux’s structure and longevity.
The estate covers around 17–19 hectares of vineyards, primarily planted to Cabernet Franc, with a small plot of Chenin Blanc used for white wine production. The vines grow across a variety of exceptional terroirs, from the gravelly alluvial soils near the Vienne River to the limestone-rich slopes of sites such as Côteau de Noiré and L’Huisserie. These south-facing vineyards offer ideal exposure and soil diversity, contributing to the depth and complexity of the wines.
Domaine Philippe Alliet produces several acclaimed cuvées, including the fresh and approachable Tradition, the concentrated Vieilles Vignes from old vines, the refined L’Huisserie, and the flagship Côteau de Noiré, a structured, age-worthy expression of Cabernet Franc. The wines are made using near-organic practices, with careful destemming, long fermentations, and ageing in concrete or large barrels. Today, Philippe, Claude, and Pierre Alliet craft wines that are both true to their Chinon origins and celebrated for their precision, purity, and longevity.
