About Poggio di Sotto
Poggio di Sotto is one of Tuscany’s most revered estates, located in the heart of the Brunello di Montalcino appellation, just southeast of the historic town of Montalcino. The winery sits at an altitude of 200–400 metres above sea level, where the combination of rocky soils, gentle slopes, and maritime breezes from the Tyrrhenian Sea creates ideal conditions for cultivating Sangiovese of exceptional character.
Founded in 1989, Poggio di Sotto quickly gained a reputation for producing some of the most elegant and age-worthy Brunello wines in the region. Since 2011, the estate has been owned by ColleMassari Wine Estates, under the guidance of Claudio Tipa, who also owns Grattamacco and Castello ColleMassari. The estate continues to follow a traditional, low-intervention philosophy in both vineyard and cellar, with organic farming practices and meticulous attention to detail throughout the winemaking process.
Poggio di Sotto produces a limited range of wines, including Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, and Brunello di Montalcino Riserva. All are 100% Sangiovese and renowned for their purity, finesse, and complexity. These wines are celebrated for their aromatic lift, silky tannins, and remarkable longevity, placing Poggio di Sotto firmly among Italy’s top producers.
