About Pyramid Valley

Pyramid Valley is a boutique winery located in Waikari in North Canterbury on New Zealand’s South Island, with an additional estate in Central Otago. The region’s limestone-rich soils and cool climate create ideal conditions for producing refined, site-expressive wines, particularly Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

The winery was founded in 2000 by Mike Weersing and Claudia Weersing, who spent years searching for land that could fully express terroir. From the beginning, they farmed biodynamically, focusing on minimal intervention and allowing the vineyard character to define the wines. Their approach quickly gained international attention for its precision and individuality.

In 2017, ownership changed when Steve Smith and Brian Sheth acquired the estate. They maintained the original philosophy while expanding the winery’s reach, including the addition of vineyards in Central Otago.

Pyramid Valley is best known for its Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, often produced as single-vineyard or even single-block wines. These wines are typically complex, textural, and age-worthy, reflecting both the vineyard site and the winery’s strong commitment to biodynamic practices and low-intervention winemaking.
