About Quinta do Vesúvio

Quinta do Vesúvio is a historic estate situated in the Douro Superior region of Portugal, roughly 120 km from the Atlantic and near the Spanish border. The property spans 326 hectares, with 133 hectares under vine across seven hills and 31 valleys. Vineyards sit at elevations ranging from 130 to 530 meters, benefiting from varied aspects and microclimates that impart exceptional complexity to the wines.

Founded in 1827 by Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, a pioneering figure in Portuguese viticulture, the estate is notable for producing one of the first single-estate wines in the Douro. In 1989, the Symington family, renowned for their long-standing involvement in Port wine, acquired Quinta do Vesúvio and revitalized it as a single-estate producer. Today, the estate focuses on crafting high-quality Vintage Ports and Douro DOC wines.

Winemaking facilities are housed in a traditional 19th-century granite building, featuring eight lagares where grapes are still trodden by foot—a practice preserved for nearly two centuries. This hands-on approach ensures wines of depth, intensity, and character. Quinta do Vesúvio produces a range of acclaimed wines, including its flagship Quinta do Vesúvio, the single-vineyard Capela da Quinta do Vesúvio, the approachable Pombal do Vesúvio, and the unoaked Comboio do Vesúvio, each expressing the unique terroir and rich heritage of the Douro Valley.
