About Savage

Founded in 2011 by acclaimed winemaker Duncan Savage, Savage Wines is one of South Africa's most exciting independent wine producers, celebrated for its elegant, terroir-driven wines and minimal-intervention philosophy. Based in Salt River, Cape Town, the winery has established a cult following among wine enthusiasts and critics, showcasing the remarkable potential of the Western Cape's diverse vineyards.

Owner and winemaker Duncan Savage developed his expertise during 14 years at Cape Point Vineyards, where he earned a reputation for producing exceptional, mineral-driven white wines. Initially launched as a personal project, Savage Wines quickly attracted international acclaim, allowing Duncan to devote himself entirely to the business in 2016 and establish his own urban winery.

Rather than relying on a single estate, Savage carefully selects fruit from outstanding vineyard sites across the Western Cape, including Stellenbosch, Paarl, Darling and Piekenierskloof. He favours maritime influences, granite-rich soils and older vines, seeking freshness, purity and distinctive regional character. His approach combines meticulous vineyard management, early harvesting and gentle winemaking techniques, often incorporating whole-bunch fermentation and maturation in large oak vessels.

The portfolio includes the flagship Savage White, a Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon blend, alongside Savage Red, predominantly Syrah. Other celebrated wines include Never Been Asked to Dance, an old-vine Chenin Blanc; Follow the Line, a fragrant Cinsault; Thief in the Night, a Grenache-based red; and Girl Next Door, an expressive Syrah.

Combining innovation, restraint and exceptional vineyard sourcing, Savage Wines has become a benchmark for contemporary South African fine wine.
